The Journal of Radiology
ISSN: 1530-3349
Mission Statement and Scope
The Journal of Radiology, or JRAD, is a peer-reviewed scientific journal
of medical imaging. It is available both in electronic form as well
as the traditional printed format and is presently the fastest growing
medical imaging journal of its kind worldwide.
The use of electronic communication, review, and publication allows
for a dramatic reduction in the time it takes to bring peer-reviewed
imaging articles to publication.
In addition, the use of electronic publication in addition to the
traditional form of printed publication allows the articles to be read
at lower cost by a much larger audience than the traditional journals which
are only available in the printed version.
The specific advantages of JRAD include
the following:
- Rapid turnaround of articles: increase the speed at which research is
disseminated by electronic peer review, editorial and production work, and
distribution.
- Heightened discourse: enhance and encourage more scientific discourse
about research by allowing electronic "Letters to the Editor" and threaded
discussions concerning articles to be created and distributed quickly and
along with the articles in question.
- Global access: improve access to information through electronic search and
delivery mechanisms.
Manuscripts are invited which deal with any area of medical imaging from
organ systems to imaging modalities and other technology (including
computers in radiology). JRAD reserves the right (a) to require the
revision of a manuscript as a condition of its acceptance for publication
and (b) to introduce any changes in a manuscript that may be necessary to
make contributions conform to its editorial standards.
JRAD will consider for publication materials prepared and submitted
according to the following instructions.
Journal format
Full articles are published on the Internet. Abstracts and short
important articles are published as a printed version. Email
announcements of new articles are available.
Articles may be of several types:
Original Papers
Editorial (or Guest Editorial)
Case reports
Scientific poster or exhibit
Policy Papers and Proposals
Reviews / Tutorials
Book/software reviews
Peer-review
All manuscripts are subject to peer review, and recommendations of the
reviewers are considered in the decision for acceptance.
When we receive a manuscript, the Editor and/or Managing Editor will
decide whether the manuscript meets the formal criteria specified in the
Instructions for Authors and whether it fits within the scope of the
journal. When in doubt and before rejecting a manuscript on the basis of
initial review, (s)he will consult other members of the Editorial Board.
If the manuscript meets the formal criteria, the Editor will electronically notify chosen experts to conduct an online peer review. Manuscripts may
also be sent to external expert
consultants for peer review.
Radiology is a fast-moving field and we acknowledge the need of our authors
to communicate their findings rapidly. We therefore aim to be extremely fast
(but still thorough and rigorous) in our peer-review process. In general,
our referees will receive the manuscript on the same or the following day of
the submission, and are urged to return their review report no later than 1
week after receipt to the editor. Thus, authors will have a complete and
thorough peer-review report 1-2 weeks after submission of their article. If
the article is accepted, it will be published right away.
